The Petenwell ATV Club continues to work for its members to expand the route system, keep the route
system open, etc. However, we need your help to do this. Recently we were denied the opening of a
route addition due to the fact that an adjacent dirt road was continually being torn up by ATVs, as well
as the ditches along the road requested. It is this sort of activity that puts our entire route system in
jeopardy of being closed completely. If you see this sort of action happening please stop the persons
responsible, or report this to a constable.
Here are just a few other things to remember when using the routes…
1. Report any missing signs to a club board member.
2. DO NOT steal or destroy the signs. The routes are only open for riding when signed, and as
approved by the townships.
3. Pay attention to the routes as signed. Our routes have changed over the past couple of years.
Routes have been added, and routes have been taken away. Be sure you are riding on the
present route system by riding on roads that are signed for ATV routes.
4. Stay on the roadway. DO NOT ride in the ditch. DO NOT ride on private property other than
your own. GOING OFF THE ROUTE AND RIPPING AND TEARING UP PROPERTY WILL
CAUSE US TO LOSE THE ROUTES.
5. Remember, you must be at least 16 years of age with a valid driver’s license to ride the
routes in the Townships of Armenia, Finley, Port Edwards, & Remington. Necedah Township
allows riders at the age of 12 with the ATV certification, but must be accompanied by an
adult when riding after 9 p.m.
6. Our routes are open year round, with the exception of being closed during the shooting hours
of gun deer season (which is also a state law).
Know the rules wherever your ride. Ride smart!
The Petenwell ATV Club will be offering an ATV Safety Class Friday, May 15th from 6-9
p.m. and Saturday, May 16th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Class will be held at the Armenia
Town Hall in New Miner. Cost of the class is $10 per student. A field course is part of
the safety class, so an ATV will be needed for the Saturday class. Students must be
available for all sessions. For more information or to register for the class please call
Chris or Tracey at 715-886-3734. Please register ASAP, as class size is limited. You must
have a DNR ID number prior to this course. Obtain this number by calling the DNR at
1-888-936-7463 or visiting a Wisconsin DNR Service Center. For information on ATV
classes in other areas, or to check on our future classes visit the DNR website at
www.dnr.wi.gov, click the "Education & Training" tab at left of screen, and then
"Outdoor Skills & Safety Education" tab at bottom of screen.
Address / Email Updates Needed
Remember to update your address and/or email address if you move or change it for any reason. Oftentimes members will move and/or change their email address and then wonder why they did not receive their newsletter, or Christmas party invitation, etc. Well, the reason would be because the information we have is out of date and the post office and/or the ISPs are no longer delivering to those addresses. So, make it easy on all of us and update your addresses with Tracey Draper, Secretary by calling 715-886-3734, emailing the ATV club at PetenwellATVClub@yahoo.com, or writing the ATV club at Petenwell ATV Club, PO Box 152, Nekoosa, WI 54457. Need to check your status? Just drop a line for that as well.
